Why love isn’t enough when it comes to running a business

You may have seen a quote along the lines of, ‘if you love what you do, you’ll never work another day.”

Now loving what you do is all well and good, but it just isn’t enough when it comes to running a business.

It’s just one of the three core elements you need in place to have a successful business, and only when these three core elements overlap do you have the ‘sweet spot’.

Alongside loving what you do (and I’m assuming here that you’re also good at what you love to do), you also need the following:

  1. Demand – do people want or need what your business is selling i.e. is there a demand?
  2. Financially viable – can your business model make a profit that you need to sustain you financially?

Sadly, there are some things that people won’t pay a lot for, that may make it difficult for a business to make enough profit.

That’s not to say that something can’t be done to improve both of these.

You can do better marketing to increase your demand, and you can restructure your business model to be more financially viable.

But, don’t assume because you love what you do that running a business doing that is going to be easy.

Now, I can’t necessarily help you love what you do but I can help you with the other two elements. You can book a complimentary strategy call with me to find out how I can help as a business coach.
