My thoughts on Black Friday and a word of caution to small business owners…
Personally, I love getting discounts on things that I’m already planning to buy for Christmas and have had a fair few parcels already delivered as testament to that! (Black Friday offers started very early from a lot of the big retailers this year)
However, offering a Black Friday discount is not usually a good idea for a small business, especially one selling professional services.
Let me tell you why…
Most small service based businesses are already under-charging.
Offering a further discount on an already low priced service, does not make for a commercially viable and profitable business.
If you are getting FOMO on all the offers you’re seeing, and getting tempted to think you need to join in, then my advice is:
- Don’t join in. Keep marketing your own business in line with your plan, and don’t get distracted with what others are doing.
- If you really want to join in, then consider offering a ‘bonus’ rather than a discount. Preferably something that has little cost to you (and won’t eat into your profit margins), but has a high perceived value to your customers.
And, if you are concerned your pricing is too low, book in a complimentary call with me here and I’ll help you establish what it should be and how you can increase it.
