18 Feb Why it’s important to set yourself deadlines in your business
This may sound like a strange question, but do you sometimes miss having a boss? Something I often say to my clients is this:
One of the best things about working for yourself is that you don’t have a boss. And, one of the worse things about working for yourself is that you don’t have a boss!
No-one to hold you accountable and set those deadlines.
Which is why it is possible to put things off we don’t want to do, or faff about taking too long over something.
It’s exactly why it’s important to set yourself deadlines in your business when no-one else will.
So consider those things you’re taking too long over, or not getting round to, and set yourself a deadline to get it done – and stick to it!
It’s the very principle of something called Parkinson’s Law, which states that work expands to fill the time allotted.
Put another way, if you set aside a day to write a piece of marketing, you’ll take the day. If you only set aside an hour, you’ll get it done in an hour.
Put your boss hat on, set yourself deadlines and hold yourself accountable.
